ENCAUSTIC PAINTING

As a professional artist having worked in many materials throughout my career, but exclusively with beeswax encaustic for over 25 years, I have the experience and knowledge to help you effectively acquire the necessary skills.

In 2018, I was the recipient of the International Encaustic Artists Vendéene Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Fine Art Encaustic Commu,nity. In 2019, I attended the R&F Advanced Teaching Workshop in Kingston, NY exponentially enlarging my skills in teaching and what can be possible with encaustic art.

All of my workshops include demonstrations for personalized instruction to include Powerpoint presentations to inspire and guide. Workshops are generously supplied by R&F handmade encaustic and paintsticks.

THE SPACE My inspiring studio in the heart of Brussels has been an artist workspace since 1908.

GROUP ENCAUSTIC WORKSHOPS

An Introduction to Encaustic Saturdays from 12-3pm. Please check schedules. Aussi en française.

Learn the necessary techniques to begin an encaustic practice. All basics covered to include safe practices in the encaustic studio.

Building Texture: from 2D to 3D in Encaustic MAY 16-18 from 10-4pm

Explore encapsulation of mixed media, relief and 3D approaches. Upcycling and encaustic will be explored in this 3 day workshop.

Encaustic on Paper JUNE 13-15 from 10-4pm

Explore different methods of working with encaustic and paper to include Japanese papers and encaustiflex. Explore image transfer, suminagashi, gum arabic resist, trace monotype and use of gel plate. 3 day workshop.

Discover working with transparencies and layers, masking, developing texture and acretion and encapasulation

Painting before the 16th Century: Encaustic, Fresco & Tempera

Expand your understanding of the history of Fine Art while increasing your skill sets in working with these ancient materials. Working on panels, with pigment, we will paint

our way through history. Includes an overview of gold-leafing.

Sculptural Encaustic

In this 3-day course we will break free of the panel and scale up to bring encaustic to the next level. I will teach methods to create strong yet light sculptures using materials that often are not associated with encaustic. Students will explore form and structure and the relationships between the two.

DRAWING & WORKING ON PAPER

Drawing is the Dance of the Hand: Rediscovering the Power of Graphite Sundays from 13:30-15:30pm. Please check schedules. Aussi en française

If you can sign your name, you can learn to draw. I can free you from inhibitions and help you learn to love this simple and beautiful ability. My methods will teach how to achieve different effects with the use of charcoal and graphite. Developing form, proportion, making making, pencil weight, chiarscuro, shading and composition will be covered. 2 hour minimum for private lessons.

Colour: the Backbone of Painting

Learn colour mixing. Become familiar with colour theory and vocabulary: weight, hue, transparency, etc. Learn about primary, secondary, tertiary, and chromatic colours. 2 hour minimum for private lessons.

The Flow of Paint: Letting the medium guide you
